China Telecom Union: Predicting the Overall Balance of Power Supply and Demand in the Second Half of the Year
2019-09-12

Polaris Star Power Transmission and Distribution Network News: China Electric Power Enterprise Federation recently released a report that the overall balance of power supply and demand in the second half of the year in China, power supply and demand in some areas are tight, and the total social electricity consumption is expected to increase by about 5.5% year-on-year.

"At present, it is the critical period of peak season, and there will be a power gap in some areas during peak season." In the second half of the year, according to Yu Chongde, a spokesman for China Telecom Union, the supply and demand of electricity in North and Central China are tight during peak periods, and some provinces need to take measures to avoid peak periods; the overall balance of power supply and demand in East and South China; and the surplus power supply in Northeast and Northwest China.

The report shows that in the first half of the year, 40.74 million kilowatts of new power generation were installed and 11.94 million kilowatts were put into production less than the same period last year, mainly 11.64 million kilowatts of new solar installed capacity and 14.17 million kilowatts less than the same period last year. The installed capacity of new non-fossil energy power generation is 25.06 million kilowatts, accounting for 61.5% of the total installed capacity of new power generation. A new coal-fired power plant was installed at 9.84 million kilowatts, with a production reduction of 540,000 kilowatts compared with the same period last year.

Power generation from non-fossil energy is growing rapidly. In the first half of the year, the hydropower generation capacity of power plants above the national scale increased by 11.8% compared with the same period of last year, the nuclear power generation capacity increased by 23.1% compared with the same period of last year, and the grid-connected wind power and solar power generation capacity increased by 11.5% and 29.1% respectively, compared with the same period of last year, 214.5 billion kWh and 106.3 billion kWh.

Utilization hours of hydropower and solar power generation equipment increased year on year, and the problem of wind abandonment and light abandonment continued to improve. The utilization rate of new energy in the operating areas of State Grid Corporation and South China Grid Corporation is more than 95%.

"It is estimated that the utilization hours of thermal power equipment in the whole year will be slightly lower than the 4378 hours in 2018." Yu Chongde said.
